Xu Jianyi, a member of the standing committee of the Jilin Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), is named general manager of FAW Group, one of the country’s oldest and largest state-owned auto makers.

Xu, 54, has served as deputy general manager of a subsidiary company and executive deputy general manger of FAW, Xinhua news agency says.

He joined the provincial government in 2003 and was elected a member of the standing committee of the CPC provincial committee of Jilin last May.

Xu replaces former FAW General Manager Zhu Yanfeng, who recently was appointed vice governor of northeast Jilin province.

FAW Group has a number of passenger-car joint-venture operations in China with foreign auto makers, including Volkswagen AG (FAW-Volkswagen Automotive Co. Ltd.) and Toyota Motor Corp. (Sichuan FAW Toyota Motor Co. Ltd. and Tianjin FAW Toyota Motor Co. Ltd.).

Additionally, FAW Group owns FAW Tianjin Xiali Automobile Co. Ltd., which produces Xiali small cars. It also builds the Hongqi (Red Flag) luxury sedan in Changchun.
