Fiat temporarily is halting sales in Iran effective immediately, a response to ongoing diplomacy talks as the Middle Eastern country remains embroiled in nuclear-weapons production challenges.

“Fiat announces that effective immediately its subsidiaries will no longer carry out business activity related to products or components where the ultimate destination of such products is known to be Iran, other than to the limited extent required to fulfill already existing binding obligations,” the auto maker says.

Fiat emphasizes that products exported there “were sold for commercial and civilian use only.”

All of the auto maker’s subsidiaries, including Chrysler, are included in today’s announcement.
