Fiat to Unveil Dodge-Based Freemont in Geneva

TURIN – Fiat Group Automobiles SpA will unveil the first addition to its product range sourced from Chrysler Group LLC at the Geneva auto show in March.

To be called the Fiat Freemont, the new cross/utility vehicle is a rebadged, and only slightly modified, version of the ʼ11 Dodge Journey rolled out earlier this month at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

It will be built at Chrysler’s Toluca, Mexico, plant along with the Journey and the North American-market Fiat 500.

The Freemont will go on sale in Europe during the year’s second half, Fiat says.

Like the Journey, the Freemont is 192.5 ins. (489.0 cm) long, 74.0 ins. (188.0 cm) high and 67.7 ins. (172.0 cm) wide, sitting on a 113.8-in. (289.0-cm) wheelbase.

Its key feature as a versatile all-round family vehicle is its standard 7-seat interior configuration, including the third row that folds completely into the floor. Only two trim levels will be offered.

At launch, the Freemont will be offered with front-wheel drive and two 2.0L 4-cyl. turbodiesels rated at 140 hp and 170 hp. Both are mated to a manual gearbox.

Later, the Freemont will be available in 4-wheel-drive versions with either the 170-hp 2.0L MultiJet 4-cyl. diesel or a 276-hp 3.6L Chrysler Pentastar V-6 gasoline engine. Both will be linked with a Chrysler automatic transmission.
