Canada Big Truck Sales Down 25.7% in July
Sales in Class 8 fell 32.0%, and medium-duty trucks were down 12.8%.
Big-truck deliveries in Canada plunged 25.7% from year-ago in July, with 2,711 units sold vs. 3,650 in same-month 2015.
Sales in Class 8 fell 32.0% to 1,676 units. Mack was only the brand above year-ago with a 7.9% gain, but its sister brand, Volvo, posted the greatest decline, falling 67.5%. Other big drops were recorded by International and Peterbilt, down 51.0% and 40.7%, respectively.
Medium-duty orders came to 1,035 units, 12.8% less than year-ago. Year-to-date, sales were down 3.9%.
Class 7 saw the only positive results as sales totaled 340 units, up 2.1%. Class-leader International improved 5.3% to 160 units. Freightliner (-40.9%) and Peterbilt (-68.4%) posted sharp declines that were countered by positive results by Hino (+93.9%) and Kenworth (+16.0%).
Class 6 orders came in less than half of year-ago with 71 units. International recorded no sales, compared with 65 year-ago. Freightliner showed a 26.7% decline. Hino’s growth, while small at 2.2%, allowed it to reach a 64.8% share of the group, more than double the 30.6% in like-2015.
Deliveries in Class 5 fell 9.6% to 528 units. FCA (-11.4%) took a softer hit than Ford (-23.3%), allowing it to become share leader in July this year. Hino sales fell 8.0%, while Isuzu gained 42.5%.
Class 4 orders declined 22.0% on 96 units. Ford sold 67 trucks, 23.9% fewer than like-2015. Isuzu showed growth in its domestic lineup, gaining 20.0%, but a 27.3% decrease was seen in its imported models. Mitsubishi Fuso posted the greatest year-over-year decline in the group, 85.7%.
Year-to-date, medium-and heavy-truck deliveries totaled 21,588 units, 17.0% fewer than the same period in 2015.
