Canada Big-Truck Winning Streak Intact

August sales jumped 45.8% compared with like-2010. The segment has posted consecutive year-over-year gains every month since March 2010.

Canada Big-Truck Winning Streak Intact

Big-truck sellers in Canada extended their winning streak in August, as deliveries of medium- and heavy-duty models rose 45.8% compared with year-ago.

Combined Class 4-8 sales last month totaled 3,240 units, up from 2,134 in like-2010 on a daily selling rate basis, according to WardsAuto data. Big-truck makers delivered 3,011 units in July.

The segment has posted consecutive year-over-year gains since March 2010.

Class 8 sales posted the greatest gain on a volume basis, with deliveries up 47.7% to 2,376 from 1,544 year-ago. Paccar accounted for 855 sales, a 66.2% increase from like-2010’s 494.

Daimler saw its sales surge 56.6% to 747 units from 458 year-ago.

Class 5 sales recorded a 24.9% gain to 359 units, compared with 276 in the same period last year. Ford was the big winner, seeing a 25.7% uptick in sales to 161 from 123 year-ago.

Ford also saw Class 4 sales rise 1.6% to 73 units from prior-year’s 69. The modest gain led all sellers in the segment, which saw total deliveries slip 6.1% to 88 trucks from 90 year-ago.

Class 8 sales lead all gainers in August.

Class 6 sales more than doubled to 149 units from 69, with International providing the momentum on 103 deliveries compared with year-ago’s 27.

Class 7 sales soared 66% to 268 units from 155. PACCAR posted the best month, with 91 deliveries compared with 35 year-ago.

Through August, big-truck deliveries were tracking ahead of like-2010 by 32.1%, rising to 23,566 units from 17,836.
