Canada Class 4-8 Sales Down 24.3% in June
Year-to-date, medium-and heavy-truck deliveries were 14.3% less than the same period in 2015.
Canadian medium- and heavy-duty truck sales fell 24.3% on a daily basis in June. Deliveries totaled 3,145 units compared with 3,997 in like-2015, WardsAuto data shows. Year-over-year declines were seen in all weight classes.
Sales in Class 8 slipped 26.2% to 2,016 units. For the first half of 2016, sales reached 11,638, 22.1% below prior-year. All brands posted double-digit drops in June, except Western Star, with a 2.0% gain. Group leader Freightliner came in 20.9% below year-ago. Volvo took the hardest hit, down 63.4%, and its sister brand, Mack, fell 18.5%.
Medium-duty deliveries totaled 1,129 units in June, 20.9% less than the 1,372 in like-2015. Year-to-date, sales were down 2.5% from prior-year.
Class 7 sales fell 15.6% to 353 units. International (-27.1%), Kenworth (-24.8%) and Peterbilt (-20.2%) posted the largest losses. Hino lifted sales 11.3% to 66 vehicles. Ford posted a 212.5% increase on small volume of 13 units.
In Class 6, deliveries tumbled 42.3% to 81 units. International’s sales dropped 83.7% to 11 units, giving the truck maker 13.6% share compared with 48.2% in same-month 2015. A 23.1% decrease from Hino also brought the group down.
Class 5 ended the month 22.3% behind year-ago on sales of 564 trucks. FCA was able to take the top spot in this segment with a 0.2% gain as Ford’s sales dropped 39.2%. Other brands in the group posted large losses, except Isuzu, up 13.3%
Class 4 fell 8.1% on 131 orders. Ford posted an 18.5% increase, and Isuzu’s import line was up 20.2%. It was poor outcomes for Hino (-82.5%), Mitsubishi Fuso (-78.6%) and domestic Isuzu models (-27.9%) that brought the group down.
Over the first six months of 2016, sales of medium- and heavy-duty trucks in Canada totaled 18,877 units, 15.6% less than year-ago.
