Canada Class 4-8 Sales Slip in November
Only Class 4 and 7 posted gains from year-ago.
Canada’s big-truck sales were down 1.7% in November, WardsAuto data shows. Combined medium- and heavy-duty deliveries through 11 months rose 4.1% on volume of 40,324 units, against 38,738 in like-2014.
Class 8 deliveries slipped 1.5%, even though group leader Freightliner posted a 26.1% gain. PACCAR’s Kenworth and Peterbilt brands reported losses of 28.0% and 31.2%, respectively. International also suffered a double-digit decline, falling 36.0%. The greatest year-over-year growth came from Mack, up 77.9% to a 10.3% share. Year-to-date heavy-truck sales stood at 27,253 units, 3.3% ahead of year-ago.
Sales in the medium-duty segment dropped 2.1% in November. Deliveries through 11 months were up 5.7% from like-2014 to 13,071 units.
Class 7 sales rose 5.3% to 209 units. Hino and International posted strong results, up 56.1 and 36.3%, respectively. Freightliner lost 10.3%, but narrowly remained the class leader. Declines by Kenworth (-10.8%) and Peterbilt (-26.3%) brought PACCAR’s sales down 20.0%.
Class 6 sales totaled 86 units, falling 13.7% due to low-volume makers. Top sellers Freightliner and Hino saw significant gains, up 76.0% and 30.0%, respectively. However Ford posted a 51.9% decline, and PACCAR slipped 58.3%. International dropped 93.2%, down to two units from 32 in November 2014.
Class 5 deliveries dropped 8.1% to 487 units. Ford (+10.3%) and Hino (+19.6%) were the only brands to show year-over-year growth. FCA posted a 23.5% decline, widening the gap in market share between it and Ford compared with prior-year. The biggest dives were seen by Freightliner and International, but with small volume.
Class 4 grew the most, shooting up 25.4% to 110 trucks. Deliveries of imported Isuzu models soared 522.9%, though domestic models lost 56.7% sales. Group leader Ford showed an 18.5% improvement to 70 units. Hino also showed strong growth, up 95.0% to an 8.5% share.
