Canada January LV Sales Edge Year-Ago
January LV sales edge past year-ago in Canada, but ran fourth behind 2002’s record performance.
Despite harsh winter weather, Canadian dealers retailed 3,816 new light vehicles on each of 25 selling days in January for a total of 95,405 units
While that was enough to edge past the 95,079 LVs sold a year earlier, at 3,803 daily, it ranked only fourth-best for the month.
The performance was well below the 4,402-a-day paced set in 2002 on record January volume of 110,045 units.
January sales also fell short of the 112,795 units sold in December, when more robust year-end sales incentives were in play.
Fiat Chrysler remained in the top spot with 17,539 January deliveries, besting year-ago by 3.9% despite a modest decline in Chrysler-brand sales.
Ford ran second, with January sales trailing like-2013 by 10.5% in spite of a 73.2% increase in Lincoln deliveries.
General Motors fell 20.1% to 10,991 units for the month coming within 553 units of being displaced as No. 3 by Toyota/Lexus, whose 10.6% increase over year-ago netted it 10,439 deliveries for the month.
Overall, Asian makes reported a 7.6% January sales increase, while Europeans were up 12.5% and the Detroit Three were off 8.1%
