Canada June LV Sales Record High
Canadian dealers posted record first-half sales on best-ever June, Q2 deliveries.
Canadian consumers took home 190,662 light vehicles in June. With an extra selling day this year, June deliveries averaged 7,333 units on each of the month’s 26 days, a 3.3% increase from year-ago.
June’s total exceeded 15 out of the past 18 months, with two of the higher periods – May (194,432 units) and April (199,922) – occurring in the record first half of this year.
Light trucks, as has been the pattern this year, boosted the market with a 9.6% increase year-over-year to a DSR of 4,789.
Cars went in the other direction, falling 6.8% from June 2015 and 16% from the previous month.
Ford usurped FCA from the top spot in June. Ford’s sales totaled 28,380, compared with FCA’s 27,576, and its sales – based on the DSR – were 3.4% above year-ago. FCA’s sales declined 1.9% from year-ago.
The No.3 automaker, General Motors, posted a 3.4% increase over like-2015.
Industry sales in the second quarter totaled 585,016 units, up 3.8% from April-June 2015’s 563,643. Although car sales fell 8.3% in the second quarter from year-ago, light trucks increased 12.2%.
At the half-way mark, 2016 sales totaled 986,852 units, up 5.9% from 6-month 2015’s 931,434.
