June 2017 U.S. LV Sales Thread: Industry Below Year-Ago for Sixth Straight Month

June had 26 selling days this year compared with 26 days in 2016, meaning DSR % change will be equal to straight volume % change for year-over-year comparisons this month.

SUMMARY:
U.S. automakers sold 1.46 million light vehicles in June. A daily sales rate of 56,318 units over 26 days represents a 3.2% decline from like-2016 (also 26 days).
The report puts the seasonally adjusted annual rate of sales for the month at 16.41 million units, below year-ago’s 16.77 million and May’s 16.58 million mark.
Year-to-date sales of 8.40 million units were down 2.2% from the first half of 2016.
General Motors took a 16.6% share, down from 16.9% in June 2016. Ford share was also down slightly, slipping to 15.1%. Toyota came in third place with a 13.8% take. FCA followed with 12.7%. Next in line were Nissan(9.8%) and Honda(9.5%).

Hyundai sold 54,507 vehicles, 19.3% below last year. Kia's sales also dropped, 10.3% to 56,143.
Daimler, including Mercedes and smart, delivered 32,337 LVs, 1.1% ahead of same-month 2016.

FCA reported 185,970 LV sales, down 7.7% vs June 2016.
Subaru continued to outpace year-ago with a 11.7% gain for the month.

General Motors sold 242,918 light vehicles, 4.8% fewer than in June 2016.
Ford took a larger dive, falling 5.7%, on 221,023 LV deliveries.
Toyota gained 2.1% to 202,376 units.
Nissan posted 143,328 sales, up 2.0%.
Honda recorded 139,793 LVs sold, a small uptick of 0.8%.
Volkswagen saw a big jump, 15.0%, to 27,377 deliveries. Audi also had a good month, selling 5.3% more than year-ago (19,416 units).
Mazda's sales were down 14.7% on 22,342 LVs.
