Malaysia July Sales Down From Year-Ago, Up From June

In line with falling sales, Malaysian production eased fractionally to 40,655 units in July from a year-earlier 41,012.

Malaysia’s new-vehicle sales fell 2.7% in July to 58,646 units with deliveries dropping in both the passenger and commercial-vehicle segments.

Malaysian Automotive Assn. data shows car sales eased 1.8% in July to 52,636 units, while CV deliveries slowed 10.2% to 6,010.

“The sales volume for August is expected to be slightly better than July due to ongoing promotional campaigns,” the MAA says in a statement. The group says last month’s result was up 2.1% from June due to Hari Raya festival-season campaigns and aggressive sales promotions.

The result left year-to-date sales down 3.2% at 380,830 units.

The car market was down 3.2% after seven months at 339,169 units, while CV deliveries slipped 3.2% to 41,661.

In line with falling sales, Malaysian production eased fractionally to 40,655 units in July from a year-earlier 41,012.

Car production climbed to 37,691 units from 37,390 a year ago, but the gain was not enough to offset an 18.2% drop in CV output to 2,964.

After seven months, Malaysian vehicle production was up 2.6% at 368,319 units with the car build ahead 3.2% at 339,793 and CV output down 4.0% at 28,526.
