New Zealand light-vehicle sales rose 14% year-on-year in February to 9,058 units, boosted by record numbers of commercial-vehicle deliveries.
Year-to-date the New Zealand market has sold 19,455 units, up 12.8% from year-ago’s 17,240, with Toyota on top at 3,193 and moving away from Ford (2,085) and GM Holden (1,981).
Motor Industry Assn. CEO David Crawford says the market remains strong with the highest February sales since the MIA began collecting records in 1981.
“It was the fifth month in a row where the monthly registrations have been the highest since the MIA began collecting records,” Crawford says in a statement.
New-car sales recorded a strong month with 6,491 registrations, the best February since 1989, while CV deliveries jumped 19.2% to 2,567 units.
Toyota was the overall sales leader for February with 1,363 units, followed by GM Holden (949) and Ford (894).
GM Holden was No.1 in car deliveries with 782, ahead of Toyota (762) and Hyundai (616). The Toyota Corolla was the top-selling car with 311 units, followed by GM Holden’s Captiva (279) and the Suzuki Swift (226).
The Toyota Hilux was February’s best-selling CV with 390 units, ahead of the Ford Ranger (311) and Nissan Navara (272). But the Ranger was the top-selling CV year-to-date with 624 units, just ahead of the Hilux’s 621.
