September Mexico LV Sales Record

More sales records fell in Mexico in September as dealers delivered a record 111,165 new light vehicles at an average of 4,447 on each of 25 selling days, beating the month’s prior peak of 91,320 units sold in September 2006 at a rate of 3,653 daily.

It also marked a 20% gain on the 3,707 cars and light trucks delivered daily in September 2014, when a shorter 24-day selling period held volume to 88,969 units.

Although the selling rate dipped a bit from that of August, record September car sales of 72,077 beat by 21.1% the old benchmark of 57,122 deliveries posted a year earlier. It continued a string of monthly car sales records that began in January.

September also saw buyers drive off with a record number of new light trucks, a feat accomplished only three times this year.

Light-truck sales totaled 39,088 units, some 2,759 more than the prior September high of 31,847 set in like-2014. June and July were the only other months this year in which light-truck sales achieved record status.

LV sales in the first nine months of 2015 total a record 943,687 units, 19.7% ahead of like-2014’s 788,482 deliveries, putting dealers on track for a second consecutive banner year.

Even if fourth-quarter sales remain flat with year-ago, an unlikely event given the final quarter of the year is traditionally a robust period, Mexico LV sales will end 2015 at 1,302,000-plus deliveries, 19.5% more than 2014’s record 1,089,665 units.

On the other hand, if the 9-month sales boost continues through December, 2015 could see dealers close the book on a record volume of 1,373,000-plus LVs.
