Taiwan New Vehicle Sales Hit Long-Time Low in April

Some luxury imports are bucking the downward trend, with Mercedes S-Class sales up 45% from year-ago.

Ho Motor Co. Ltd. reported the worst results for the month, with deliveries plunging 46.6% from year-ago to 12,407.

Sales of imported cars were somewhat stronger than those of domestically produced models, continuing a year-long trend.

Government statistics show a total of 21,000 imported cars were sold in the first four months of this year, down 10% from like-2005.

However, sales of some luxury models continued to buck the downward trend. Deliveries of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class jumped 45% from year-ago, while BMW 7-Series sales rose 14%.
