The Wards Intelligence Fuel Economy Index shows the average fuel-economy rating of light vehicles sold in the U.S. in February was 25.6 mpg (9.2 L/100 km), up 1.2% from year-ago, but slightly behind January’s result.
BMW recorded the biggest improvement from February 2017, 5.9%, primarily boosted by increased plug-in hybrid sales. Declining EV sales and a shift to CUVs from small and midsize cars were key factors in Volkswagen’s 8.1% index-rating decline.
