Increased demand for light trucks slows industry gains.
The Wards Intelligence Fuel Economy Index shows the average fuel-economy rating of light vehicles sold in the U.S. in January was 25.8 mpg (9.1 L/100 km), up 0.7% from year-ago to an all-time high. Cars improved 2.0% and light trucks recorded a 2.2% increase, but greater market share of the less efficient vehicle type dampened the overall gain.
