Ford Deluged With Applications for Limited-Edition GT
Hundreds of applicants have submitted videos hoping to bolster their chances of buying one of the £350,000 performance cars. The reverse pitches have featured children, lighting effects, racing footage, revving engines, garage tours and life stories.
BRENTWOOD, U.K. – The U.K. catches Ford GT fever with 500 potential owners signing up hoping to buy the £350,000 ($400,000) new supercar.
Ford says it has received 6,506 applications from people around the world in the 1-month window for a chance at owning the second generation of the EcoBoost-powered performance car. Retail deliveries are expected by year’s end.
But with just 500 vehicles in the first production wave of the car claiming the highest power-to-weight figures of any sports car, most will be disappointed after Ford reviews the applications before informing successful customers within the next 90 days.
The 3.5L twin-turbocharged engine produces 630 hp powering a carbon-fiber chassis with a curb weight of only 2,890 lbs. (1,310 kg).
“We’re excited by the amount of enthusiasm fans are showing for the new Ford GT,” says Dave Pericak, director-Global Ford Performance. “This initial application window is just one of many ways fans and potential owners will have to connect with our all-new supercar even before it hits the streets.”
