Ford Invests $214 Million in its Buffalo Stamping Plant

Ford Motor Co. says it will invest $214 million in its Buffalo, NY, stamping plant to support the launch of the ’07 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX cross/utility vehicles.

The money will go toward a new Schuler press, 120 dies, 10 new sub-assembly lines and a general facility upgrade, the auto maker says.

The Edge and MKX will be produced this fall at Ford’s Oakville, Ont., Canada, assembly plant. Buffalo will produce door panels, hoods, liftgates, floor pans, ladders, cowl tops, wheelhouses, dashes, side sills and front and rear headers for the vehicles.

The state of New York also announces a $1.35 million grant package in support of the auto maker’s investment. The state grant will be used primarily for facility upgrades and employee training.

The Buffalo Stamping Plant opened in 1950.
