Ford Posts Record Sales in China in 2007

Changan Ford Mazda, Ford’s Chinese passenger-car joint venture, also had a record year, with deliveries up 60% to 217,100 units.

Ford Motor Co. posts a 30% sales increase in China in 2007 vs. year-ago, making it the fastest-growing automotive brand in the burgeoning market.

Ford Motor China Ltd. sold a record 216,324 units, including Ford, Jaguar, Volvo and Land Rover brands.

Strong sellers included the Ford Focus small car, S-Max cross/utility vehicle and Mondeo sedan.

Changan Ford Mazda Automobile Co. Ltd., Ford’s Chinese passenger-car joint venture, also had a record year, with deliveries up 60% to 217,100 units. CFMA produces Ford, Volvo and Mazda vehicles for the Chinese market.

“We are pleased with our growth in China,” Mei-Wei Cheng, chairman and CEO of Ford China, says in a statement. “What is more satisfying is that the growth is built on a sustainable business.”

Ford and its JV partners operate three assembly plants and one engine facility in China, as well as an automotive-financing company, a sourcing and research-and-development center and sales and service operations.
