Ford to Add Shift at Dearborn Truck Plant
The plant recently underwent a $148 million renovation to accommodate production of the new ‘09 F-150 fullsize pickup

DEARBORN, MI – Ford Motor Co. in January will reinstate the third shift at its Dearborn Truck Plant here, a move that will add 1,000 workers to the facility’s production team.
Ford in June cut the shift due to lagging consumer demand for the fullsize pickup.
“The new F-150 is the best truck Ford has ever produced, and we expect a strong response from core truck buyers,” Joe Hinrichs, group vice president-global manufacturing, says at an event here to celebrate the new truck.
“Despite the challenges in the market, the fullsize pickup segment remains one of the largest in the industry, and we are ensuring we have the production capacity we need to meet market demand.”
The plant recently underwent a $148 million renovation to accommodate production of the’09 F-150. It employs 2,470 workers, including 2,300 hourly and 170 salaried employees. The new F-150 also is being built at Ford’s Kansas City, MO, assembly plant.
