Ford will enter the “rapidly opening” Myanmar market, inking an agreement with distributor Capital Automotive.
The auto maker says by year’s end it will have a showroom of global cars and trucks representing multiple segments in the emerging Asia/Pacific market. The F-150 and Ranger pickups will be the first vehicles to be offered in Myanmar.
The first dealership is nearing completion in Yangon, the country’s commercial center and most populous city. The facility’s design and operations will be fully aligned with Ford’s global standards, the auto maker says, noting it will expand its Myanmar dealership network over time.
Ford says entry into Myanmar supports its overall growth plan for the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations. The country’s location between India and China, and a shared border with Thailand, provides a variety of vehicle supply and logistics options, including importing U.S.-sourced vehicles directly into Myanmar.
