Ford ‘Whiz Kid’ Lundy Dies

Former Ford Motor Co. Chief Financial Officer Ed Lundy died Oct. 2 at the age of 92.

Lundy was best known as one of “The Whiz Kids,” a group of 10 U.S. Army Air Force officers that was credited for leading Ford out of potential financial ruin following World War II.

Lundy retired in 1979, but stayed on as a member of the board of directors until 1985.

Executive Chairman Bill Ford Jr. credits Lundy for the visionary leadership he brought to the auto maker.

“Ed Lundy was a true pioneer in business and is a celebrated figure in Ford history,” he says in a statement. “Hired by the company in 1946 as one of ‘The Whiz Kids,’ he was a consummate professional, role model and leader. During his 33 years of service, Ed Lundy re-wrote the rules of finance in the auto industry. He will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.”
