GM Adds Premium Model to Chevy Silverado HD Line
GM says the Silverado High Country HD combines the refinement and convenience of the Silverado 1500 High Country edition with the added towing and hauling capability of its three-quarter-ton line of pickups.
General Motors today unveils at the Denver auto show a luxury-leaning edition of its redesigned ’15 Chevrolet Silverado Heavy Duty pickup, the brand’s first premium offering in the segment.
GM says the Silverado High Country HD combines the refinement and convenience of the Silverado 1500 High Country edition with the added towing and hauling capability of its three-quarter-ton line of pickups.
Key content to the Silverado High Country HD includes a chrome grille with horizontal bars, body-color front and rear bumpers and 6-in. (152-mm) tubular chrome assist steps. High Country badges adorn the doors and tailgate, while similar logos appear on the door sills.
The trucks also receive 20-in. chrome wheels, and single rear-wheel 3500HD models are fitted with 18-in. chrome wheels. Silverado 2500HD High Country models also feature a unique 20-in. chrome wheel. Dually models add a 17-in. forged polished aluminum wheels.
Interior highlights include a saddle brown leather exclusive to the High Country line, heated and cooled perforated leather seating surfaces with High Country logos on the headrests and the Chevy MyLink connectivity center featuring an 8-in. (20 cm) touchscreen. A Bose premium audio system and front- and rear-park assist also come with the package.
The list of optional equipment includes a sunroof, navigation system, second-row entertainment system with a Blu-ray DVD player, heated steering wheel, driver-alert safety package and power adjustable pedals.
A new pair of uplevel trailering mirrors also appears on the pickup and feature chrome caps drivers can manually extend when pulling wider trailers. The mirrors adjust and fold electronically and are heated with turn signals in the glass. They use auxiliary clearance lamps and auxiliary cargo lamps to assist in backing trailers.
Powertrain choices remain a 6.0L V-8 engine with 360 hp and 380 lb.-ft. (525 Nm) of torque, a bi-fuel version of that same engine using gasoline and compressed natural gas and a 6.6L Duramax turbodiesel engine mated to an Allison 1000 6-speed auotmatic transmission combining to deliver 397 hp and 765 lb.-ft. (1,037 Nm) of torque.
The Silverado High Country HD comes in 2-wheel and 4-wheel-drive models with maximum tow ratings of 22,900 lbs. (10,387 kg) using a fifth-wheel/gooseneck connection. Under conventional towing, the pickup will pull upwards of 19,600 lbs. (8,890 kg), GM says.
Chevy dealers will begin receiving the Silverado High Country HD this summer. Pricing has not been released.
