The Pontiac G6, due to arrive in dealer showrooms this fall, will be the division's volume leader when all variants are finally on sale, a General Motors Corp. executive says.
“We're hoping to be north of 200,000 units when all the models and powertrains are up and running,” says Jim Panaretos, in charge of marketing for the G6.
He forecasts the models equipped with 3.5L V-6 and 4-cyl. engines each will take about 25% to 30% of sales. The top-of-the-line G6 GTP with 3.9L engine will account for the remaining 40% to 50%.
The coupe and convertible will come only with V-6 engines. They will account for about 40% of sales, split evenly between the two body styles.
That leaves about 60% of sales for the G6 sedans, which will be the first to go on sale some time in September. The coupe and convertible won't hit the market until about 15 months later.
All three models will be on sale by the end of 2005. Only 20,000 G6 sedans will be sold this year, along with 60,000-65,000 Grand Ams — the model the G6 replaces.
