Honda Doesn’t Try to Undercut Competitors With Accord

Accord pricing has increased approximately $600, or 2.5%, on a sales weighted basis from ’07 to ’08.

American Honda Motor Co. Inc. says the starting price for its ’08 Accord sedan will begin at $20,360 for a base 4-cyl. LX model.

That’s above the starting price of Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc.’s Camry ($18,570) and General Motors Corp.’s new Chevy Malibu ($19,345), as well as Honda’s ’07 Accord, which for a Value Package sedan model starts at $18,625.

Honda says Accord pricing has increased approximately $600, or 2.5%, on a sales-weighted basis from ’07 to ’08. It adds about $1,400 in relative value for the new model, however.

The starting price of the new Accord coupe is $21,860 for a base LX-S model with 4-cyl. and 5-speed manual transmission.

The Accord sedan tops out at $30,260 for an EX-L trim with Honda’s new 3.5L V-6 engine, 5-speed automatic transmission and navigation system. The Accord coupe is a maximum $30,510 for an EX-L model with V-6 engine mated to either a 5-speed automatic or 6-speed manual transmission.

Additional destination and handling charge for the ’08 Accord is $635.
