Honda’s BR-V prototype, a new-generation CUV, makes its world debut at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show.
Organized by the Association of Indonesian Automotive Manufacturers (Gaikindo), the show covers 646,000 sq.-ft. (60,000 sq.-m) and has attracted 32 brands, including newcomers Lexus, Maserati, Porsche and Rolls-Royce. It began Aug. 20 and runs through Aug. 30.
The BR-V prototype features the combination of an SUV’s appearance, handling and utility and the spacious cabin of a multipurpose vehicle. It is powered by a 1.5L VTEC engine with either a new 6-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable transmission.
The Honda BR-V is scheduled to be marketed first in Indonesia early next year and then in other countries. Prices will range from 230 million-265 million rupiah ($16,360-$18,800).
Production of the BR-V will start in January at Honda Prospect’s Karawang factory.
The automaker is using the auto show to display 36 cars, including its entire current lineup in Indonesia and several special models including two Honda BR-V prototypes.
Honda aims to book 5,500 sales during the show.
