Honda announces the Civic Si will arrive at dealerships later this year, describing it as the best-handling, best-equipped and most fun-to-drive version of the compact sport sedan ever.

The 2022 Civic Si, based on the all-new 11th-generation Civic sedan, is designed to lure young driving enthusiasts with an updated turbocharged 4-cyl. engine, standard manual transmission and sport-tuned suspension.

The new Civic Si is powered by a high-output VTEC 1.5L turbo-4 creating 200 hp and peak torque of 192 lb.-ft. (260 Nm) at 1,800-5,000 rpm that arrives 300 rpm sooner for more quickness off the line and coming out of tight corners, Honda says.

The standard 6-speed manual offers improved shift feel and 10% shorter throws, and it has a standard rev-matching system also used by the Civic Type R.

In addition to Normal and Sport driving modes, the new Si will offer an Individual mode that allows the driver to customize engine response, steering effort and instrument panel display color.

Sport mode adds throttle response, decreases steering assist, deactivates the idle stop system, allows drivers to activate rev matching and changes the instrument accent lighting from white to red.

The ’22 Civic Si’s EPA fuel economy ratings are 27/37 mpg (8.7-6.4 L/100 km) city/highway.

A front spoiler hidden under the vehicle and a gloss black rear spoiler mounted atop the trunklid add downforce to improve high-speed stability. LED headlights and taillights are standard.

Ten-spoke 18-in. alloy wheels are finished in Si-specific matte black, and a new, Si-exclusive Blazing Orange Pearl paint color is available.

Inside, new Si-specific stabilizing sport seats with embroidered Si logos and red contrast stitching are standard. This also is the first Civic Si with a 9-in. (23-cm) high-definition color touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration and a Bose Centerpoint 2 premium sound system.

The Si features sport pedals and red contrast stitching on the doors, steering wheel, center arm rest, shift boot and shift knob. Red trim distinguishes the Civic’s signature metal honeycomb dash panel which visually conceals the air vents for a clean, uncluttered design.

The Si’s new 7-in. (18-cm) color instrument display comprises a digital tachometer on the left side, a multi-information display in the center and a speedometer on the right.

Unique design cues and functional aerodynamic aids include a new aggressive front bumper, and the rear bumper has been reshaped to reveal two large oval exhaust tips.

Civic Si shares a long list of new active and passive safety systems with the rest of the Civic lineup.

This includes what Honda says is the world’s first application of driver and passenger front airbags designed to better reduce the likelihood of injuries from severe brain trauma associated with angled frontal collisions. The sport sedan also has standard rear-seat side airbags.

An updated Honda Sensing suite of active safety and driver-assistance technologies uses a new single-camera system providing a longer, wider field of view than the previous radar-and-camera based system.

Combined with software advances and a new, more powerful processor, the system can more quickly and accurately identify pedestrians, bicyclists and other vehicles, along with road lines and road signs, Honda says.

Pricing information has not yet been released.
