With Manual Gearbox, Honda Civic Hatches a Good Time
Honda says the versatile, Euro-inspired hatchback comes with an available 6-speed manual transmission mated to either a 158-hp naturally aspirated 2.0L 4-cyl. or a 1.5L turbocharged 4-cyl. rated at 180 hp.
Honda reveals its 2022 Civic Hatchback, which will begin production later this year at Honda's Greensburg, IN, assembly plant. The hatch joins the all-new 11th-generation Civic sedan, which arrived in Honda dealerships earlier this month.
The Japanese automaker says the fun-to-drive hatchback combines Euro-inspired exterior styling and five-door versatility with a sporty driving experience punctuated by an available 6-speed manual transmission mated to either a 158-hp naturally aspirated 2.0L 4-cyl. or a 1.5L turbocharged 4-cyl. rated at 180 hp, both running on regular unleaded fuel.
The manual gearbox is not offered in the sedan but will be standard in the Si and Type R versions of the Civic when they arrive.
The Civic hatchback (pictured below) offers all the technological updates made to the 2022 Civic Sedan, including a new standard single-camera Honda Sensing suite of safety and driver-assistance technologies. Key options include a 9-in. (23-cm) color touchscreen, Bose premium sound system and a 10.2-inch (26-cm) all-digital instrument display.
“Civic Hatchback plays a critical role in the Honda lineup, and we expect the all-new 11th-generation model to be even more popular than its predecessor,” says Dave Gardner, executive vice president of National Operations, American Honda Motor Co. “With its sporty, fun-to-drive driving character, Euro exterior styling and flexible interior packaging, the new Civic Hatchback will appeal to those all-important young and active buyers.”
Reintroduced to the U.S. market with the 10th-generation Civic in 2016, the hatchback has grown to account for more than 20% of all Civic sales. Honda says it sold 1.7 million 10th-generation Civics.
