Korean automaker group invests in German R&D to aid development of its brands for the European markets.
Hyundai is boosting its R&D capabilities in Germany with the upcoming opening of a new technical center and the expansion of its test facility at the iconic Nürburgring in Germany.
The automaker says its plans will help support sustainable mobility innovation for its brands trading in Europe including Hyundai, Kia and Genesis.
In March the group will open its Square Campus at the Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Center. This is an 82,021 sq.-ft. (7,620 sq.-m) facility, located in the Rhine-Main region, housing the group’s largest 4-wheel noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) dyno, as well as advanced chassis and powertrain dynos to reduce the need for on-road testing.
It will focus on improving battery-electric vehicles, advanced driver-assistance systems, infotainment and electrification technologies.
The automaker will also bolster its presence at the Nürburgring where it has been testing vehicles for more than a decade.
Its latest expansion of the facility provides an additional 2,736 sq.-ft. (254 sq.-m) of space for new workshop areas, specialized laboratories and high-voltage BEV charging capabilities.
Tyrone Johnson, managing director of Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Center, says: “Germany remains at the heart of automotive excellence. Our investment in this powerful ecosystem reflects our confidence in the Rhine-Main region’s engineering expertise and innovative strength. More than that, it proves our commitment to the passionate engineers and partners who make it all happen. With our expanded facilities, we provide them with a hub for creative collaboration. They have the resources and advanced technologies they need to push boundaries and shape a more dynamic, connected future for the European automotive landscape.”
