Hyundai Motor America announces it will add a new GLS trim to its Azera near-luxury sedan lineup for '07.

The GLS, beginning at $24,895 including a $660 handling charge, will slot in below the SE and Limited models, which start at $26,195 and $27,995, respectively, for '07.

The GLS gets the midsize Sonata's smaller, more fuel-efficient 234-hp 3.3L V-6 engine, rated at getting 21/28 mpg city/highway (11.2-8.4 L/100 km).

The SE and Limited models retain their 3.8L V-6.

Both engines are mated to Hyundai's 5-speed automatic transmission with Shiftronic.

Other changes for the Azera lineup for '07 include the addition of optional leather upholstery for the SE, a 605-watt Infinity Logic 12-speaker audio system to the Azera Limited's $3,100 Ultimate Package, and a standard tire pressure monitoring system for all grades.

Ward's data shows Azera sales rose 56.3% in the year's first two months, to 3,469 units from 2,220 year-ago.
