Leaked photographs of the Genesis coupe, to be unveiled at the New York auto show this week, are popping up all over the Internet – on blogs and in various publications that had pledged not to publish them before the auto maker’s March 19 press conference.

“It’s really hard to keep an embargo on a car like the Genesis coupe, but the leak didn’t happen in Korea,” a Hyundai spokesman tells Ward’s. “Once somebody leaked the photos on the Internet, everyone started copying them.”

The spokesman confirms the Genesis coupe will go into production in the year’s second half at the auto maker’s Plant 2 in Ulsan, South Korea, but won’t hit showrooms in the U.S. and China until 2009.

A source at Hyundai confirms two engines will be available: a 212-hp 2.0L turbocharged 4-cyl. and an all-aluminum 306-hp DOHC 3.8L V-6 Lambda engine.
