Hyundai reveals its ’19 i30 5-door Fastback N at the Paris auto show.

The Fastback N is the second high-performance model from Hyundai’s N performance division, following the i30 N hot-hatch.

Hyundai says the N range was derived from the automaker’s successful participation in the FIA World Rally Championship and Touring Car Racing International series.

The Fastback N incorporates many of the design signatures of its hatchback sibling. The i30 Fastback shape has been merged with the features of the i30 N 5-door, including the N grille, and N front and rear bumpers.

The rear visual features include a twin-muffler exhaust and a cohesive rear spoiler that flows into the line of the liftback.

The Fastback N features the 2.0 L turbocharged engine introduced in the i30 N hatchback. It will be offered in Europe in both standard and performance iterations.

The standard engine delivers 247 hp and Hyundai says fuel economy is 33.6 mpg (7.0 L/100 km). The performance package engine generates 271 hp and achieves 33.1 mpg (7.1 L/100 km).

The engine delivers maximum torque of 261 lb.-ft. (353 Nm) in both specifications. An overboost function increases torque up to 279 lb.-ft. (378 Nm) and is activated when the maximum torque threshold is reached.

The European i30 Fastback N with standard package accelerates from 0-62 mph (100 km/h) in 6.4 seconds and the performance package in 6.1 seconds. Top speed is 156 mph (250 km/h).

The car features Hyundai SmartSense active safety and driving-assistance technologies, including forward collision-avoidance assist, driver-attention warning, lane-keeping assist and intelligent speed-limit warning.
