Autonomous Car Parking Robot an Early CES Winner

A self-parking robot called Parkie is among the early technology award winners at CES 2024.

The skateboard-like machine created by the Korean mobility technology specialist HLmando claims to employ Level 4 autonomous driving technology to recognize objects, tires and license plates to independently assess parking spaces and vacant areas without the need for additional infrastructure or spatial constraints.

Standing on its wheels at just 3.5 ins. (89 mm) high it is lower than most engineer car jacks, allowing it to work with most commonly used vehicles as it leads them to vacant car parking bays.

Its maker claims the device can liberate an additional 30% of parking spaces in congested parking environments. The Parkie is scheduled to commence testing in April at a start-up hub south of Seoul and will include trials working in complex multi-story car parks.

Choi Sung-ho, HLmando’s vice president of the mobility solution technology group, says: “Parkie not only enhances the efficiency of parking spaces but also contributes to strengthening the competitiveness of buildings by utilizing abandoned spaces.”
