Seoul Boosts Smart City Status with V2X Deployment

South Korea’s capital city has installed a V2X system for its public transportation in a bid to boost its smart city status and improve future mobility.

Seoul is now providing public transport able to intelligently alert its drivers of possible pedestrian collision, school, and silver zones, as well as road and weather conditions warnings. The C-ITS flagship system has been installed by Israeli chipset communications specialist, part of the city’s plan to establish a unique V2X and ADAS test platform supporting autonomous driving at Level 4.

The V2X system was deployed in nearly 2,000 buses operating in Sangam Digital Media City and along Seoul’s expressways. The project was spearheaded and jointly funded by city and the South Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT).

With thousands of systems deployed, the project claims to be one of the most extensive of any modern city.
