Chrysler will continue to price its ’14 Dodge Durango SUV at $29,795, the same entry-level point as the current model but with added standard features, the auto maker says.
The manufacturer says it has added $3,500 in options currently not available on the ’13 model, chief among them a ZF-designed 8-speed automatic transmission that supplants an outgoing 5-speed.
Though classified as an SUV, Chrysler is pitting the 7-passenger Durango against competitors in the cross/utility vehicle segment, including General Motors’ Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia.
Insiders have spoken of increasing exposure for the Durango, which suffered monthly sales slumps throughout most of 2012 but has seen gains through 2013. Through July, WardsAuto data shows the auto maker has delivered 33,440 of the SUVs, up 38.3% from the first seven months of 2012.
Marketing is expected to revolve around the Durango’s SUV capabilities, such as its ability to haul 7,400 lbs. (3,357 kg), but also its premium-styled interior, which was revamped from ’13.
Each of the SUV’s five trim levels – SXT, Rallye, Limited, R/T and Citadel – carry over into ’14.
