President Bush has canceled plans for a confab this week with top executives at the U.S. Big Three auto makers, citing a scheduling conflict.

The White House says Bush will be busy traveling to promote his border security proposals and must cancel plans to meet with CEOs at General Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler Group. The joint meeting had been scheduled for Thursday, May 18.

Auto executives were expected to discuss with the president fuel economy and alternative fuel issues, among other matters. The meeting reportedly has been rescheduled for June 2.
