VIENNA – China’s Chery Automobile Co. Ltd. plans to introduce its new Chery QQ6 small sedan in the domestic market in August.

The new model, codenamed S21 during the prototype phase, is seen as the extension of the Chery QQ, which is one of the best-selling models in the country.

Qin Lihong, Chery's vice general manager-sales, says the QQ6 name underlines that the new model belongs to the QQ family.

"In the Chery brand plan, the characters QQ represent minicars,” Qin Lihong tells the Chinese media.

The small sedan will be available with 1.1L and 1.3L engines, with the appropriate model names: the Chery QQ611 and QQ613.

Customers 20-30 years of age and purchasing their first car are seen as typical buyers of the QQ6.

The car’s front design differs from the “classic” QQ, which General Motors Corp. has said is a copy of the former Daewoo Matiz, called the Chevy Spark in China.

The Chery QQ6 is 157 ins. (399.8 cm) long, with a 92-in. (236-cm) wheelbase.

New QQ6 front-end styling to distinguish it from previous generation.
