Jaguar Land Rover is creating 1,000 jobs at its U.K. Halewood plant to support increased production of its Freelander and Evoque models.

The auto maker, owned by Tata Motors of India, will move to 24-hour production as it increases its workforce at Halewood to almost 4,500 – triple the number employed there just three years ago.

Tata acquired the Jaguar and Land Rover brands from Ford in 2008.

Des Thurly, human resources director-Jaguar Land Rover, says the auto maker is moving to three shifts “to meet increased global demand for our products. JLR's supply chain is also set to benefit, with thousands more jobs expected to be created.”

“Our commitment to expand the Halewood workforce and increase production is great news for JLR, for Merseyside and for the wider U.K. economy," Thurlby says in a statement.

The new jobs at Halewood will include production operators, supervisors and engineers.
