New Zealand Posts Best October on Record
If strong sales continue for the last two months of the year, it is likely the market will exceed 112,800 units, industry officials say, easily topping 2012 results.
New commercial-vehicle sales soared 33% in New Zealand in October to a record 2,734 units on the back of growing economic confidence.
The Motor Industry Assn. says the month’s passenger-vehicle sales rose 8.5% year-on-year to 7,962 units, the best October result since 1984. It left the October market up 14% at 10,696 units.
MIA CEO David Crawford says CV deliveries hit their highest October total since his organization began collecting data in 1981.
“It’s the second month in a row that records have been the highest since records began,” Crawford says in a statement.
Crawford says if strong sales continue for the last two months of the year, it is likely total new-vehicle deliveries will exceed 112,800 units, an increase of about 12,000 from 2012.
Year-to-date CV deliveries are up 26.5% to 25,486 units – already well ahead of the full-year 2012 total of 23,924 units.
Toyota remained the market leader for the month with a 24.9% share (2,664 units), followed by Ford at 12.8% (1,366 units) and Holden with 11.3% (1,205 units).
Car sales to date are up 6.7% at 68,545 units and closing in on the 76,871 units sold in all of 2012.
Toyota topped the car segment with 2,063 units, as its Corolla led the field with 963 sales. The automaker also led the October CV market with 601 units, followed by Ford (542) and Holden (9.4%).
However, the Ford Ranger topped the market with 478 units, outpacing the Toyota Hilux’s 396.
Year to date the Hilux leads the segment with 3,998 units, just ahead of the Ranger, at 3,870.
