CHICAGO – Ram unveils its Chassis Cab lineup for the ’19 model year at the Chicago auto show, saying the heavy trucks feature class-leading capability and new levels of comfort and technology.

The 3500-, 4500- and 5500-model work trucks lead their segment with 35,220 lbs. (15,990 kg) of towing capacity, gross combined weight ratings of 43,000 lbs. (19,510 kg) and payload of 12,510 lbs. (5,680 kg), Ram says.

The standard engine in the Class 3, 4 and 5 trucks is a 6.4L Hemi V-8 producing up to 410 hp and 429 lb.-ft. (582 Nm) of torque or an optional Cummins 6.7L inline-6 turbodiesel creating 360 hp and 800 lb.-ft. (1,085 Nm). The Hemi V-8 in the 3500 is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, the first in the segment, Ram says. The Hemi V-8 in the 4500 and 5500 is linked to a 6-speed automatic that is optional for the 3500.

Active-safety systems include adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking and trailer brakes on all four trim levels. The ParkSense park-assist system provides visible and audible indications and a 270-degree camera system with trailer reverse-guidance view to broaden the driver’s field of vision.

Inside is a 12-in. (30-cm) reconfigurable Uconnect touchscreen with split-screen capability and featuring what Ram calls tailor-made graphics for specific models. SiriusXM Travel Link provides real-time weather forecasts, fuel prices and live weather maps. A 750-watt Harman Kardon audio system, one of four available, deploys 17 speakers and an 8-in. (20-cm) subwoofer.

The ’19 Ram Chassis Cab, built in Coahuila, Mexico, will be available in the second quarter. Pricing will be announced later.
