Jaguar Land Rover builds its 1 millionth vehicle, a Range Rover Evoque painted in a special one-off color combination, at its Halewood advanced manufacturing facility near Liverpool, U.K.

Production at Halewood has increased significantly over the past 12 months due to round-the-clock shifts, bringing the arrival of the millionth vehicle ahead of original forecasts.

Production of the Evoque began in July 2011 with more than 18,000 advance orders from customers worldwide. Waiting lists for the car peaked at 12 months for some markets during second-half 2011.

As a result, Halewood moved to 24-hour production for the first time in its 50-year history and has built 255,186 Evoques to date.

The 1 millionth vehicle is being donated to the Cancer Research U.K. organization, which will raise money by selling it in a special auction next year.

“Over the past few years many of the families of my growing team have been impacted by various forms of cancer,” Halewood Operations Director Richard Else says in a statement. “This milestone vehicle, built with pride at Halewood, will help raise much-needed funds to help eradicate this dreadful disease.”
