Shelby Automobiles Inc. launches production of the Shelby GT-H, a special edition of the Ford Mustang unveiled last week at the New York International Auto Show that soon will be available to Hertz Corp. rental customers.
Output at Shelby’s Las Vegas production facility began Monday, April 17, the 42nd birthday of the Mustang, which Ford Motor Co. initially introduced in 1964.
Shelby expects to produce only about 500 of the 325-hp, black and yellow high-performance cars. The model marks the second go-around for Shelby, Ford and Hertz, which collaborated in a similar “Rent-a-Racer” program in 1966 with the legendary Shelby GT350, now a collector staple.
The Shelby GT-Hs produced for Hertz ultimately will be sold to collectors through Ford dealers and auto auctions.
