Ssangyong releases a rendering of its XIV-2 soft-top cross/utility vehicle coupe concept that will have its global debut in March at the Geneva auto show.
The new vehicle is built on the same platform as the XIV-1 concept sedan that was shown last September at the Frankfurt motor show.
A spokesman tells WardsAuto the plan is to roll out a production version of the new vehicle for the South Korean market in 2014, with wider marketing plans not yet defined.
“It will make our brand image much younger and fresher,” the spokesman says. “We definitely expect it to be a big seller.”
The new vehicle features a soft top that is secured in tracks along both edges of the roofline. It retracts and deploys electrically and is self-stored in an interior rear compartment.
The spokesman says the XIV-2 will have 1.6L diesel and 1.6L gasoline-engine offerings, but both mills still are in the design stage at Ssangyong’s engine-development center in Changwon, near Busan on Korea’s southern coast.
Most of the design for the XIV-2 was done in-house, with some participation from project-design partner IDEA Design Group in Turin, Italy.
