Nissan Veteran Albaisa Named Head of Infiniti Design
Albaisa is credited for contributions to the design development of such successful Nissan vehicles as the trendsetting Juke, as well as the Altima, Maxima, Rogue and Quest.
TURIN, Italy – Infiniti President Johan de Nysschen names Alfonso Eduardo Albaisa executive design director for the Nissan luxury brand.
Albaisa, 49, will move from his position of vice president-Nissan Design America in San Diego to Atsugi, Japan, home of the vast Nissan Design Center.
Albaisa is credited for contributions to the design development of such successful Nissan vehicles as the trendsetting Juke, as well as the Altima, Maxima, Rogue and Quest. He also has directed the design of concept cars such as the ’06 Nissan Urge, ’10 Ellure Hybrid concept and ’13 Extrem urban SUV concept for Brazil.
“Alfonso is a brand visionary who has the passion and drive to translate his progressive thinking into exciting designs with global appeal and is a great fit for Infiniti,ˮ says Shiro Nakamura, Nissan-Infiniti Group chief creative officer.
Albaisa graduated from the Pratt Institute in New York and subsequently attended the Center for Creative Studies in Detroit. Since joining Nissan Design America in La Jolla, CA, in 1988, he has worked at Nissan design studios on three continents.
The appointment follows de Nysschen’s naming of Hiroyuki Fuhsiki as general manager-Infiniti product strategy.
