PARIS – Chrysler Group debuts revised versions of its European Jeep Cherokee at the annual auto show here.

The model features updates to its exterior and interior, but the big news is what’s under the hood.

The revised model features a 2.8L common-rail diesel with a variable geometry turbocharger.

The engine produces 295 lb.-ft. (400 Nm) of torque at 1,800 rpm, with a towing capacity of 7,700-lbs. (3,500 kg) and a driving range of 450 miles (725 km) on a single tank of fuel. Power is rated at 163 hp at 3,800 rpm.

The new diesel engine is mated to a new 6-speed manual transmission, providing better noise, vibration and harshness performance over the previous model. A 5-speed automatic is optional.

Other engine choices include a 3.7L V-6 gasoline engine producing 204 hp at 5,200 rpm and a 2.4L gasoline engine producing 147 hp at 5,200 rpm.
