Volvo Claims 'Most Versatile Interior' for EM90
Living-room-on-the-move gets another airing with Swedish automaker's first battery-electric people carrier.
Volvo Cars is drip-feeding details of its first fully electric people carrier ahead of the global debut next week claiming the evergreen ability for it to become a "living room on the move."
While many other car manufacturers have long made this boast for their spacious MPVs, Volvo’s claims for the upcoming EM90 include the most versatile arrangement of interior accommodation of any of its range, past or present.
It says the vehicle can cover use cases from family to work life in a premium environment featuring top-flight material surfaces, luxury lounge seats with zero-gravity pressure releasing cushions (pictured, below) and a large panoramic sunroof. The vehicle provides seating for six including personalized entertainment and comfort adjustment options controlled through the armrests and a touchscreen on a natural wood surface.
Even in the second row, passengers get a massage function, individual ventilation and heating options, as well as built-in tables and cupholders. These seats also feature zero-gravity cushions with a seven-layer structure and a thickness exceeding 120mm (4.72-ins), including high-density damping layers for both comfort and support. The third row claims easy access through sliding rear doors and long-sliding second-row seats.
The EM90’s panoramic sunroof covers the length of the cabin and features a shading curtain and multiple ambient lighting settings.
“In creating the EM90 interior, we focused on a car that works just as well when you’re on the move for work as when you travel with your family," says Sophie Li, head of the Volvo Cars design studio in Shanghai. "This was an exciting assignment for the entire design team.” The company also has an R&D and design centers in Gothenburg, Sweden.
