Ford U.K. marks another production milestone with its Bridgend Engine Plant in Wales building its 19 millionth engine, 35 years after output began in May 1980.

Earlier this year, the plant, 165 miles (266 km) west of London, also produced its 8 millionth small-capacity gasoline Duratec engine, 17 years after output began.

Plant Manager Ian Pearson says Bridgend has a proud record of high-volume engine production that is exported across the globe.

Bridgend supplies gasoline engines for Ford vehicles around the world, including the new 1.5L EcoBoost, available on the new Focus, Kuga, Mondeo and S-Max models.

The 1.6L EcoBoost engine used to power the Ford Fiesta ST also is built at the plant.

More than 700,000 engines were built at Bridgend last year, 80% of which were exported. More than 620,000 units have been shipped to the U.S. and Mexico since production began, with more than 75,000 during January-April 2015.
