GM to Invest $200 Million for Brazilian Engine Plant

General Motors Corp. says it will invest $200 million to build an engine and auto-components plant in Joinville City, Brazil.

The plant, which will employ 900 people, will begin production in fourth- quarter 2009 and be capable of producing 120,000 engines and 50,000 cylinder heads annually, GM says.

“The plant is part of GM Brazil’s strategy to place facilities in the most advantageous locations, and Joinville City provides a fantastic infrastructure and has highly skilled labor,” Jose Carlos Pinheiro Neto, vice president of GM Brasil do Ltda., says in a statement.
