Chrysler recalls about 745,000 SUVs with risk of premature airbag deployment.

The callback covers some ’02-’03 Jeep Liberty and ’02-’04 Jeep Grand Cherokee models. Owners will be notified, and repairs come at no cost.

Chrysler initiated the recall after an investigation by the auto maker and the National Highway Traffic Safety Admin. found flawed occupant-restraint control modules.

“A design change to a supplied component was linked to a small number of inadvertent airbag deployments, and in keeping with the best interests of our customers, we initiated a recall campaign,” David Dillon, head-product investigations and campaigns, says in a news release.

The auto maker says it is not aware of any accidents occurring as a result of the faulty airbags.
