Jeep Signals Importance of China With Four Design Concepts
China already is Jeep’s largest market outside of the U.S., and plans are to add local assembly of the new small Renegade model to further growth.
Fiat Chrysler Automobile’s Jeep brand makes it crystal clear how important the China market will be to its future, with plans to unveil four design concepts at the Beijing auto show this weekend.
Two of the concepts, the Sageland and Urbane, are based on the Jeep Cherokee, one (the Sundancer) is a derivative of the Jeep Wrangler and the fourth, dubbed Zi You Xia, is version of the upcoming small Jeep Renegade, which is expected to be assembled in China.
Official announcement of the deal to build the Renegade locally with partner Guangzhou Automobile is expected to come at the show on Sunday.
“Jeep is the fastest growing imported brand in China and this is our largest Jeep market outside the U.S.,” Mike Manley, chief operating officer-Asia Pacific and CEO of the Jeep brand, says in a statement.
All four of the concepts get unique exterior and interior treatments FCA says were inspired by Chinese culture and art.
